New GCC Executive Committee Begins 2022-2023 Term
8/2/2022The 2022-2023 GCC Executive Committee members began their terms effective August 1st, 2022.
New to the Executive Committee leadership this year are our Diversity & Member Engagement Officer and Professional Development Officer, who will be essential in helping the GCC make progress on two key pillars of our 2022-2026 Strategic Plan:
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Specifically, accelerating support for existing and outreach to potential GCC members from historically marginalized groups
- Professional Development opportunities and trainings for potential and existing GCC members at different career stages
Melissa Bostrom, Ph.D., Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Professional Development at Duke University will be the Professional Development Officer.
Both Horton and Bostrom will serve 2-year terms on the Executive Committee. Derek Attig, Ph.D., has assumed the role of President of GCC as of August 1st and Rob Pearson, Ph.D., is President-Elect this year. Annie Maxfield, M.S., has transitioned to the role of Past-President for 2022-2023.
Pearson is Director of Graduate Career Development and Postdoctoral Affairs in the Moody School of Graduate and Advanced Studies at Southern Methodist University. Attig is Assistant Dean for Career and Professional Development at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Maxfield Director of Graduate Career and Professional Development at the University of Texas at Austin.
Sonali Majumdar, Ph.D., Assistant Dean for Professional Development in the Graduate School at Princeton University replaces Chris Smith as Communications Officer. Her 2-year term will run through July 31, 2024. Remaining on the Executive Committee to complete their 2-year terms are Treasurer Eric Vaughn, M.Ed., Director of Career Services at the University of Rochester's School of Medicine & Dentistry, and Secretary Pallavi Eswara, M.S., Director of Postdoctoral Affairs at Boston University.
