GCC 2019 meeting to be held in New Orleans!

As we all get ready to descend upon Houston in two weeks, you may be wondering where we will land in 2018. Honoring one of our newly articulated core values – inclusion – that came out of the strategic planning process, we would like to share with you the process by which the Executive Board decided to relocate the 2018 national conference.

In 2016 our wonderful colleagues at Vanderbilt University and Meharry Medical College volunteered to host the 2018 meeting in Nashville, Tennessee. We want to extend a huge thank you to Ruth Schemmer, Kim Petrie, and Letha Woods for stepping up to host us!

As our planning progressed, however, the Tennessee state legislature passed some exclusionary legislation. Kim, Ruth, and Letha reached out to the Executive Board when they became aware of a ban on California state employee travel to Tennessee, in response to this legislation.

After conversations with the 2018 planning committee, input from our members and extensive discussions within the Executive Committee, we made the decision to select a new conference location for 2018.  In March, we sent out a "Call for Hosts" request, and we want to thank all the institutions who submitted proposals.

We are happy to announce that the 2018 national conference will be held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Thanks are due to Eileen Callahan and Alissa Ewer for stepping up and inviting the GCC to converge at their home institution a year from now. Join us in Houston to hear more about what we can expect when we travel to Wisconsin in 2018!

Sincerely,
The GCC Executive Board
